I've always had the belief (from observation) that people tend, fairly quickly, to take on the personality of their leader. I am a pastor and I've observed this over and over again in the church. A pastor who is contentious and argumentative finds that his or her people are, too. A pastor who is laid back, has congregants who are laid back. I've observed that a congregation that HAS BEEN contentious quickly reforms to peaceful when they call a man or woman with a peaceful mindset and personality - and vice versa.
What does it mean for America? Donald Trump is crass and insults anyone he wants. He sets out to destroy his enemies. He calls people names and encourages people to be violent to those with whom he disagrees. He is at least a misogynist. He is at least a bully. He is the classic narcissist. Is this what America is about to become? God forbid...God help us. May we - may our children - not become like our next president.
I shall pray every day for Donald Trump. I shall pray that, even at age 70 there is hope that he will mature into a civilized human being, able to interact, as an adult, with others. I shall pray that his public persona is not the one he brings to the world's most powerful office - is not the one our children will see and emulate for the next four years - that WE adults will not see it nor emulate it. We are better than that... or should be.
