Helping people find the right words for
life’s most meaningful moments.

About Steve Schafer

For more than 40 years, I have been honored to help people find words during some of life’s most important times — times of grief, remembrance, gratitude, love, and legacy.

But this work didn’t begin as a business.

It began beside hospital beds, in quiet living rooms, funeral homes, and sanctuaries — sitting with grieving families trying to answer one impossible question:
“How do I possibly put this person’s life into words?”

As a pastor for over four decades, I had the privilege of walking with families through loss, celebration, transition, and remembrance. Along the way, I officiated more than 500 funerals and memorial services, served as an on-call minister for multiple funeral homes, and listened to thousands of stories about remarkable ordinary people — parents, spouses, grandparents, friends, veterans, teachers, business owners, caregivers, and quiet heroes.

Again and again, I saw the same struggle.

People knew what they felt.

They just didn’t know how to say it.

That realization eventually led me to create The Eulogy Writers — a place where people could receive compassionate, professional help putting love, memories, and meaning into words.

Since then, I have written hundreds of heartfelt tributes for families across the United States and internationally, helping people honor loved ones in a way that feels personal, authentic, and true.

But over time, something else happened.

People began asking:
“Can you help me tell my story?”
“Can you help me leave something meaningful for my children?”
“Can you help preserve memories before they’re gone?”

And so the work expanded.

Today, I help people with:

Meaningful Eulogies
Heartfelt tributes that sound like you and truly reflect the person you love.

Legacy Letters
Personal messages for children, grandchildren, spouses, and future generations — preserving values, stories, blessings, and love.

Life Story & Legacy Books
Helping people capture memories, family history, life lessons, and stories that deserve to be remembered.

Because here is what I have learned:

Every life contains stories worth preserving.

You do not need to be famous.
You do not need to be wealthy.
You simply need a story, people you love, and a desire to leave something meaningful behind.

Personally, I am an ordained minister, writer, speaker, and author of the book Funerals for Strangers: A Resource for Compassionate Care for Those Who Grieve. I've also written three books of short stories (parables). I earned degrees from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, and Trinity Theological Seminary in Indiana and spent most of my ministry years serving congregations in the Midwest before my wife Sue and I moved to Georgetown, Texas.

When I am not writing, I enjoy family, woodworking, meaningful conversation, and helping people preserve the stories that matter most.

If you are grieving, overwhelmed, or simply hoping to preserve memories for future generations, you do not have to do it alone.

I would be honored to help.
